Who We Are

Robert Watson, Executive Director & Founder

Robert Watson is the founder of The Resolution Institute, bringing with him more than 30 years of expertise in change management and problem skills training. His interest in creating positive organizational change goes back to 1974, when he was assigned as a human relations officer in the U.S. Coast Guard. There he led seminars on gender and racial discrimination awareness. Rob’s role expanded, and he created a Coast Guard-specific organizational development program.  A life-long learner and teacher of communication and organizational effectiveness, Rob joined forces with key researchers from Stanford University to train leadership programs based on principles that would ensure long-lasting behavioral change.

Since founding the for-profit quality management consulting firm Resolution in 1983, Rob has consistently applied the Stanford principles to the development of the Resolution Process, which has helped California state government agencies establish collaborative cultures within their organizations. In 1997 Rob initiated efforts to help state agencies establish a fact-based management system around the principles of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Program. The implementation of Baldrige principles resulted in the development of performance management software, which provided an interactive process to establish accountability and employee empowerment. With Rob’s guidance, Resolution consultants have set these principles in motion with the goal of helping create positive improvements. Rob has applied these principles and tools as the basis for global change through the Resolution Institute.
